All Over the World, New Year Celebrations The New Year is the beginning of a new calendar year. It is the day on which the count increases by 1. The New Year is celebrated by various cultures, but the Gregorian calendar is the most widely used calendar system. Learn more about the different celebrations that are associated with the holiday.
